Removal And Installation

REMOVAL
- Raise and support vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE
.
- Saturate the bolts (1, 2) with Mopar® Rust Inhibitor. Allow 5 minutes for penetration.
- Remove the exhaust to manifold bolts.
- Disconnect the upstream oxygen sensor electrical connectors (1).
- If required, remove the O2 sensors (4) from the pipes.
- Disconnect the down stream O2 sensors electrical connectors (1, 2).
- If required, remove the O2 sensors (3, 5).
- Loosen the clamp.
- Separate the catalytic converter outlet pipe from the muffler (3) intake pipe.
- Support the transmission with a suitable stand.
- Remove the transmission support. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove catalytic converter.
INSTALLATION
- Install and hand tighten RH pipe (2) to exhaust manifold.
- Install and hand tighten LH pipe to exhaust manifold bolts.
- Tighten the exhaust flange bolts (1, 2) to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the catalytic converter outlet pipe into the muffler intake pipe.
- Tighten the clamps to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Check the exhaust system for contact with the body panels. A minimum of 25 mm (1.0 in.) is required between the exhaust system components and body/frame parts. Make the necessary adjustments, if needed.
- Connect the upstream O2 sensor electrical connectors (1).
- Connect the downstream O2 sensors (1, 2)
- If removed, Install the upstream and downstream (3, 5) O2 sensors. Tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the transmission crossmember. Refer to CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
- Start the engine and inspect for exhaust leaks. Repair exhaust leaks as necessary.
