Removal And Installation

REMOVAL
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Drain transfer case lubricant.
- Mark front and rear propeller shafts for alignment reference.
- If equipped, remove the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank. Refer to TANK, DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Support transmission with jack stand.
- Remove the transfer case skid plate, if equipped.
- Disconnect front and rear propeller shafts at transfer case.
- Disconnect transfer case shift motor and wire connectors.
- Disconnect transfer case vent hose.
- Support transfer case with transmission jack.
- Secure transfer case to jack with chains.
- Remove nuts attaching transfer case (2) to transmission (1).
- Pull transfer case and jack rearward to disengage transfer case.
- Remove transfer case from under vehicle.
INSTALLATION
- Mount transfer case on a transmission jack.
- Secure transfer case to jack with chains.
- Position transfer case under vehicle.
- Align transfer case and transmission shafts and install transfer case onto the transmission.
- Install and tighten transfer case attaching nuts to proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove transmission jack and support stand.
- Connect the vent hose.
- Connect the shift motor connector.
- Align and connect the propeller shafts. Refer to SHAFT, DRIVE, FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and SHAFT, DRIVE, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Fill transfer case with correct fluid. Refer to TRANSFER CASE/FLUID - STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Install skid plate, if equipped.
- If equipped, install the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank. Refer to TANK, DIESEL EXHAUST FLUID, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Lower vehicle and verify transfer case shift operation.
