Removal And Installation: Removal

WARNING:

Do not remove or loosen the coolant pressure cap, cylinder block drain plugs, or the draincock when the system is hot and under pressure because serious burns from the coolant can occur.

CAUTION:

The Thermostat and housing is serviced as an assembly. Do not remove the thermostat from the housing. Damage to the thermostat may occur.

  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  2. Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L  .

  5. Loosen the band clamp (1a) and remove the degassing hose (1b).

  6. Loosen the band clamp (1a) and remove the radiator hose (1b).

  7. Loosen the band clamp (1a) and remove the heater core hose (1b).

  8. Unlock and disconnect the engine water heating coil wire harness connector (1).

  9. Remove the bolts (1) from the thermostat housing.

  10. Unlock and disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) wire harness connector (1b).
  11. Disengage the wire harness (1c) from the clip on the thermostat.

  12. Remove the thermostat (1a) and DISCARD  the seal (1b).
