Water Pump: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jeep Renegade. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:

Do not rotate the crankshaft using the damper bolt. The bolt has left-hand threads and can be inadvertently loosened resulting in loss of camshaft timing. Only rotate the damper itself in a clockwise direction (as viewed from the front).

  1. Clean the seal mating surfaces.

  2. Install the NEW  seals (1) on the water pump.

  3. Using the (special tool #2069100090, Holder, Front Damper 3 Pin), rotate the crankshaft clockwise (as viewed from the front) to place the water pump gear (1) in a vertical position (2).
  4. Rotate the water pump drive (3) to align with the water pump gear (1) and install the water pump.

  5. Install the water pump bolts (2) and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .

  6. Install a NEW  gasket (1) to the water pump cover.

  7. Install the water pump cover and tighten the bolts using the sequence shown, to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  8. Reposition the hoses and install the retainers.
  9. Install the front fascia. Refer to FASCIA, FRONT, INSTALLATION .
  10. Install the front wheelhouse splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, INSTALLATION .
  11. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, INSTALLATION .
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L  .
  13. Install the engine cover.
  14. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.
