Removal And Installation: 2.4L: Removal

NOTE:

Left Hand Drive (LHD) shown, Right Hand Drive (RHD) similar.

  1. Remove the battery and battery tray

    Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL .

  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL .
  4. If equipped with Front Wheel Drive (FWD), remove the intermediate shaft. Refer to FRONT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION and REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. If equipped with All Wheel Drive (AWD), remove the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  6. Disconnect the wire harness connector (2) from the starter motor.
  7. Remove the B+ electrical connection nut (1) and disconnect the B+ electrical connection from the starter.
  8. Remove the lower starter bolt (3).

  9. Remove the upper starter bolt (1).
  10. Remove the gear selector cable retaining bracket bolt (2), then position the bracket (2) aside.
  11. Remove the starter motor.
