Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL .
  3. Remove the front brake rotor. Refer to ROTOR, BRAKE, FRONT, REMOVAL .

  4. With the appropriate tool, unstake the hub nut (1).

  5. Install special tool 1870815000 (1a), remove and DISCARD  the hub nut (1b).

  6. Remove the outer tie rod end (1b) from the knuckle. Refer to REMOVAL, OUTER TIE ROD .
  7. Remove the wheel speed sensor to knuckle bolt and remove the wheel speed sensor (2) from the knuckle.

  8. Press the halfshaft inboard slightly and remove the four hub and bearing bolts (1).

  9. Remove the hub and bearing (1) from the knuckle.
  10. Inspect the internal surfaces of the front steering knuckle for wear or damage. Inspect the front steering knuckle arms for wear or damage. Install a new front steering knuckle, as necessary.
