4 Wheel Drive: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the rear wheels. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the muffler as necessary. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .
- Remove the rear halfshafts. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the rear drive line module. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Raise the vehicle and using a suitable marking device, mark the position of the crossmember on the rear frame rails (1).
- Remove the bolts (1) and remove the rear suspension control arms.
- Remove the nuts (2) and separate the stabilizer bar links (1) at the stabilizer bar.NOTE:
The following step requires the use of universal tool 2000043000, body centering conical/round pin 2000043300, crossmember centering pin/bracket 2000043500 and crossmember centering pin 2000043600
- Using a suitable hydraulic lift, support the support the rear suspension crossmember with the tools (1a, 1b, 1c and 1d), as shown in the figure.
- Remove the bolts (1a) and remove the rear suspension crossmember (1b).
- If needed, remove the following components:
- Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REAR SUSPENSION, REMOVAL .
- Remove the control arms. Refer to ARM, LOWER CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
