2 Wheel Drive: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Raise the vehicle and using a suitable marking device, mark the position of the crossmember on the rear frame rails.
- Remove the rear wheels. Refer to REMOVAL .
- Remove the exhaust as necessary. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 1.3L or MUFFLER, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION, 2.4L .
- Remove and DISCARD the nut (1) and separate the stabilizer bar link from the stabilizer bar.
- Proceed in the same way to disconnect the right side sway bar link from the stabilizer bar.
- Remove the bolt (1) securing the left rear lower control arm to the rear knuckle.
- Proceed in the same way to disconnect the right side rear lower control arm from the crossmember.
- Remove the bolt (1) securing the left front lower control arm to the rear knuckle.
- Proceed in the same way to remove the right side lower control arm.NOTE:
The following step requires the use of universal tool #2000043000, body centering conical/round pin #2000043300, crossmember centering pin/bracket #2000043500 and crossmember centering pin #2000043600.
- Position the tool (1a) as indicated in the figure, remove the four bolts (1b) and remove the rear suspension crossmember (1c).
- If needed, remove the following components:
- Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REAR SUSPENSION, REMOVAL .
- Remove the control arms. Refer to ARM, LOWER CONTROL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
