Checking Engine Oil Pressure

- Remove the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to
SENSOR, OIL PRESSURE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
.
- Install the (special tool #9879, Adapter, Oil Pressure Test) (1).
- Install the (special tool #C-3292A, Gauge, Pressure) (1) into the adaptor (2).
- Start the engine and record the reading on the oil pressure gauge. Compare this reading to the oil pressure specification. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS
.NOTE:
If the engine will not start, note the oil pressure gauge reading during the start attempt.
- No oil pressure or low oil pressure at the oil pressure sensor can be due to the following:
- Pressure relief valve stuck open
- Clogged oil pump pick-up screen
- Engine oil pump malfunction
- Remove the oil pan and inspect for debris. Refer to PAN, OIL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Remove the oil pressure relief valve. Refer to VALVE, OIL PRESSURE RELIEF, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Inspect the oil pressure relief valve. Refer to VALVE, OIL PRESSURE RELIEF, INSPECTION .
- If the pressure relief valve is OK, replace the oil pump/balance shaft module assembly. Refer to
PUMP, ENGINE OIL, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- After the test is complete, remove the (special tool #C-3292A, Gauge, Pressure) (1) and the (special tool #9879, Adapter, Oil Pressure Test) (2).
- Install the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to SENSOR, OIL PRESSURE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
