Section 13 (3.0L Turbo Diesel (Service Information)): Installation

  1. Carefully align the engine assembly in the engine bay area and align with the transmission, Do Not  lower the engine.
  2. Align the engine to transmission, and lower the engine mounts into position.
    NOTE:

    Right side mount shown in the illustration, left side similar.

  3. Install the right and left engine mount retaining nuts (1) and tighten to 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.).
  4. Remove engine lifting device.

  5. Install the right side engine mount heat shield. Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).

  6. Install the left side engine mount heat shield. Tighten the bolts to 10 N.m (89 in. lbs.).

  7. Remove the bolts (2) and the (special tool #VM.10360A-1, Bracket, Engine Lifting (Left Rear)) (1).

  8. Remove the bolt (2) and the (special tool #VM.10360A-3, Bracket, Engine Lifting (Left Front)) (1).

  9. Remove the bolts (2) and the (special tool #VM.10360A-2, Bracket, Engine Lifting (Right)) (1).
  10. Remove the floor jack from under the transmission.
  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  12. Install the four transmission-to-oil pan bolts and tighten to 55 N.m (41 ft. lbs.).
  13. Install the upper five transmission-to-engine bolts and tighten to 55 N.m (41 ft. lbs.).
  14. Install the bolts securing the transmission cooler liner to oil pan and securely tighten bolts.
  15. Position the EHPS pump, install the retaining bolts and tighten to 23 N.m (17 ft. lbs.).
  16. Install the transmission dipstick tube.

  17. On 4x4 models, Install the front axle (1). Refer to INSTALLATION .
  18. Install the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). Refer to FILTER, DIESEL PARTICULATE, INSTALLATION .
  19. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  20. Position the engine wire harness over engine and connect wire harness connectors.
  21. Install the engine wire harness chassis ground.
  22. Connect the engine wire harness connector below right head lamp.
  23. Connect the engine wire harness connector at right fenderwell.

  24. Install the glow plug module (2). Refer to MODULE, GLOW PLUG, 3.0L DIESEL, INSTALLATION .
  25. Connect the engine wire harness connector to Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
  26. Verify that the torque converter is pulled flush to the flexplate. Tighten the bolts to 42 N.m (31 ft. lbs.).
  27. Install the starter. Refer to STARTER, INSTALLATION .
  28. Install the left exhaust manifold. Refer to MANIFOLD, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .

  29. Install the oil cooler adapter assembly. Refer to ADAPTER, OIL COOLER, INSTALLATION .
  30. Install the A/C compressor. Refer to COMPRESSOR, A/C, INSTALLATION .
  31. Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR, INSTALLATION .

  32. Install the ground cable at frame rail and securely tighten nut (1).
  33. Connect the two heater hoses at bulk head.
  34. Connect the brake booster vacuum hose.

  35. Connect the low pressure supply (2) and return (1) lines to the fuel injection pump.

  36. Install the fuel injection pump blocker shield. Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 ft. lbs.).
  37. Install air cleaner body and turbocharger inlet hose. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, INSTALLATION .

  38. Install the cowl extension (1) and the side extensions (2, 5). Refer to SILENCER, COWL EXTENSION, INSTALLATION .
  39. Install the lower radiator hose.
  40. Install the upper radiator hose.
  41. Install the cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, INSTALLATION .

  42. Install the coolant recovery bottle. Refer to BOTTLE, COOLANT RECOVERY, INSTALLATION .

  43. Connect the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) hose (1) to the EGR air flow control valve.

  44. Install the charge air resonator mount bracket.
  45. Install the charge air resonator (3) and attach the clips (1).
  46. Connect the CAC hose to resonator (3).
  47. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  48. Install the rear A/C compressor mounting bolt and tighten to bolt to 28 N.m (21 ft. lbs.).
  49. Install bolt securing the power steering supply line and securely tighten.
  50. Install the transmission skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, INSTALLATION .
  51. Install the front suspension skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, INSTALLATION .
  52. Install the front skid plate. Refer to PLATE, SKID, TRANSFER CASE, INSTALLATION .
  53. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  54. Install a NEW  oil filter. Refer to FILTER, ENGINE OIL, INSTALLATION .
  55. Fill engine with the recommended engine oil. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  56. Fill the cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  57. Install the hood. Refer to HOOD, INSTALLATION .
  58. Connect the negative battery cable.
  59. Start engine, allow to warm, turn engine off and inspect for leaks.

  60. Install the engine cover (1).
