Diagnostic Test

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on.
    2. Using the scan tool, run and record a Vehicle Scan Report showing all PCM DTCs.
      NOTE:

      Do Not cycle the ignition during this Test Step. If the ignition is cycled off too often, the PCM will place this monitor in sleep mode for at least 4 hours. Erasing the DTC, leaving the ignition on, and then starting the Engine will satisfy the 'Two Trip' requirement for re-starting this monitor.

      NOTE:

      This monitor will stop after 5 or 10 minutes of test driving (see When Monitored).

    3. Using the scan tool, erase DTCs and leave the ignition on. 
    4. Start the engine directly after erasing DTCs.
    5. Test drive the vehicle under normal operating conditions to include braking and periodic changes in acceleration.
    6. Using the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Did the DTC return as Active or Pending?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

      • Perform to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT DTC .
  2. CHECK THE EXHAUST SYSTEM FOR LEAKS 
    1. Visually inspect the entire exhaust system for signs of a leak.

      Were any exhaust leaks found?

      Yes 

      • Perform the appropriate repair.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  3
  3. CHECK THE PM SENSOR OPERATION 
    NOTE:

    The PM Sensor consists of a Module and a Probe (with a harness in between) which cannot be serviced separately. They are replaced as one unit.

    1. Using the wiring diagram/schematic as a guide, inspect the (vehicle harness) wiring and connectors between the PM Sensor (Module) and the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
    2. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires.
    3. Look for broken, bent, pushed out or corroded terminals.
    4. Monitor the scan tool data relative to this circuit and wiggle test the wiring and connectors.
    5. Look for the data to change or for the DTC to reset during the wiggle test.
    6. Perform any Technical Service Bulletins that may apply.

      Were any problems found?

      Yes 

      No 

      • Replace the PM Sensor in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to PCM VERIFICATION TEST .
