Shaft, Drive, Rear: Installation

NOTE:

Clean all propeller shaft bolts and apply Mopar® Lock AND Seal Adhesive or equivalent to the threads before installation.

CAUTION:

Failure to follow these instructions may result in a driveline vibration.

  1. For Coupler type  , install the propeller shaft on transfer case or transmission with reference marks (3) aligned. Install flange bolts and nuts and tighten to specifications. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  2. For

    Constant Velocity (CV) Joint type 

    , install the propeller shaft on transfer case or transmission with the reference marks (3) aligned. Install the flange bolts and tighten in a star pattern to proper

    Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

    CAUTION:

    Make sure the center bearing is installed in the correct orientation. Failure to do so can create a vibration while driving the vehicle and subsequent damage to the drivetrain components.

  3. Install the center bearing (1). Tighten to proper specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  4. Install the heat shield (3).
  5. Install the exhaust system. Refer to the appropriate service information MUFFLER, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
  6. If equipped, install the skid plates Refer to PLATE, SKID, FRONT SUSPENSION INSTALLATION .
