Section 7 (Base Brakes (Service Information)): Hydraulic/Mechanical: Description

Each disc brake assembly consists of the following major components:

Caliper
Caliper adapter bracket
Pads
Rotor
Electric Park Brake (EPB) rear calipers

REAR DISC CALIPER The rear brake caliper features the EPB which combines a electromechanical motor and gear unit (EPB actuator) with a conventional rear caliper. Refer to PARKING BRAKE, DESCRIPTION . The EPB actuator can be removed and serviced separately from the caliper.

CAUTION:

If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable before servicing any EPB component.
