Booster, Power Brake: Removal

- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the Power Distribution Center (PDC) from the mounting location and position aside. Refer to CENTER, POWER DISTRIBUTION (PDC), REMOVAL .
- Remove the Integrated Control Unit (ICU). Refer to INTEGRATED CONTROL UNIT (ICU), REMOVAL .
- Remove the ICU mounting bracket.
- Remove the master cylinder and reservoir assembly. Refer to MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE, REMOVAL .
- Disconnect the vacuum sensor and remove the vacuum hose from the booster.
- Remove intermediate shaft pinch bolt (3) and separate the intermediate shaft (1) at the base of the column from the steering gear pinion shaft (2). Discard the pinch bolt (3); it is not to be reused.
- Position the intermediate shaft (1) so that the pedal assembly can be accessed.
- Remove the stop lamp switch Refer to SWITCH, STOP LAMP, REMOVAL
.
- Disengage clips (1) on booster rod keeper assembly retainer (2). Position retainer (2) up to remove booster rod from pedal assembly.
- Remove the four nuts (1) attaching the power brake booster to the dash panel.
- Slide the power brake booster forward until its mounting studs clear the dash panel, then remove it through the engine compartment.
