Master Cylinder, Brake: Removal
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
The vacuum in the power brake booster must be pumped down before removing the master cylinder to prevent the booster from sucking in any contamination. This can be done by pumping the brake pedal while the engine is not running until a firm brake pedal is achieved.
- With the engine not running, pump the brake pedal 4-5 strokes until the pedal feel is firm.
- Remove the engine cover, if equipped.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the PDC (2) from the vehicle. Refer to CENTER, POWER DISTRIBUTION (PDC), REMOVAL
.
- Remove the bolts (2) from the PDC mounting bracket (1) and remove from the vehicle.
- Siphon as much fluid as possible from master cylinder reservoir.
- Remove the primary and secondary brake tubes (1) from the Integrated Control Unit (ICU) to the master cylinder.
- Disconnect wire harness (2) from brake fluid level switch on master cylinder reservoir.
- Disconnect wire harness from brake vacuum check valve. Remove vacuum tube from power brake booster.
- Remove master cylinder retaining nuts. Taking care not to lose o-ring seal between power brake booster and master cylinder, remove master cylinder from vehicle.
