Installation - Condenser

CAUTION:

Be certain to adjust the refrigerant oil level when servicing the A/C refrigerant system. Failure to properly adjust the refrigerant oil level will prevent the A/C system from operating as designed and can cause serious A/C compressor damage.

NOTE:

When replacing multiple A/C system components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

NOTE:

If only the A/C condenser is being replaced, add 20 milliliters (0.7 fluid ounce) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. Use only refrigerant oil of the type recommended for the A/C compressor in the vehicle.

NOTE:

Replacement of the refrigerant line washer seals is required anytime a refrigerant line is disconnected. Failure to replace the washer seals could result in a refrigerant system leak.

  1. Position the condenser in the vehicle.
  2. Install the radiator. Refer to RADIATOR, ENGINE COOLING, INSTALLATION .

  3. Remove the tape or plugs from the opened refrigerant line fittings and ports.
  4. Connect the liquid (3) and discharge (2) jumper lines to the condenser and tighten the bolts to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  5. Be sure that the A/C discharge line (1) is not stowed behind the area shaded red (2) (between the alternator and exhaust manifold). The A/C discharge line (1) needs to be in front of the exhaust manifold. 
  6. Install the transmission oil cooler, if equipped. Refer to COOLER, TRANSMISSION OIL, INSTALLATION .
  7. Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector to the negative battery cable.
  8. Evacuate the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  9. If the condenser is being replaced, add 20 milliliters (0.7 fluid once) of refrigerant oil to the refrigerant system. When replacing multiple components, see the Refrigerant Oil Capacities chart to determine how much oil should be added to the refrigerant system. Refer to OIL, REFRIGERANT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  10. Charge the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
