NOTE:

The intake and exhaust springs are NOT interchangeable. Make the springs accordingly for installation. Correctly identify the part numbers for new springs being installed.

If removed, install the valve(s). Refer to INSTALLATION .
NOTE:
Reassemble the valves into their original locations. If the valves or valve seats have been refinished, verify that the valve stem tip height (5) is within specification. Refer to ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS .

If removed, install the valve guide seal (2) over the valve guide (3). Refer to INSTALLATION .
NOTE:
Make sure that the garter spring (1) is intact around the top of the valve guide seal (2). Number 2 cylinder exhaust valve guide seal shown in illustration, all other valves similar.

Install the valve spring (2) and valve spring retainer (1).

Install the (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) (2) on the (special tool #MD998772A, Compressor, Valve Spring) (1).

NOTE:

Install the (special tool #MD998772A, Compressor, Valve Spring) (1) onto the cylinder head.
Support the valve in the combustion chamber to hold the valves in place.

NOTE:
Number 3 cylinder exhaust valve spring compression shown, all other valves similar.
Using the (special tool #10224, Adapter, Valve Spring) (2) with the (special tool #MD998772A, Compressor, Valve Spring) (1), compress the valve spring (4) only enough to install the valve retaining locks (3).

If the valves or valve seats have been refinished, verify that the installed height of the valve springs (4) are within specification. Make sure the measurement is taken from the top of spring seat (6) to the bottom surface of spring retainer (1). Refer to ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the cylinder head. Refer to INSTALLATION .
