Air Bag, Seat: Installation: Rear

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, Occupant Classification System (OCS), seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment.

NOTE:

The following procedure is for replacement of an ineffective or damaged Seat AirBag (SAB). If the airbag is ineffective or damaged, but not deployed, review the recommended procedures for Handling Non-Deployed Supplemental Restraints. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE . If the SAB has been deployed, review the recommended procedures for Service After A Supplemental Restraint Deployment before removing the airbag from the vehicle. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .

Carefully slide the SAB (3) into the nylon pouch (intensifier) integral to the outboard side of the rear seat cushion trim cover. Use care not to tear or damage the pouch or the trim cover.
Position the rear SAB onto the bracket near the outboard front corner of the seat cushion frame (1).
Install and tighten the two nuts that secure the studs (2) of the SAB inflator to the bracket on the outboard front corner of the seat cushion frame. Tighten the nuts to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Connect the seat wire harness connector (5) to the SAB inflator. You can be certain that the connector is fully engaged in its receptacle by listening carefully for a distinct, audible click as the connector snaps into place.
Push the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) lock firmly into the SAB connector insulator until it is flush with the upper surface of the insulator.
Position the plastic SAB initiator cover to the bracket on the outboard front corner of the seat cushion frame.
Install and tighten the screw that secures the plastic SAB initiator cover to the bracket on the outboard front corner of the seat cushion frame. Tighten the screw to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the outboard end of the trim cover (4) onto the rear seat cushion frame.
Position rear SAB tether anchor clip (1) to the outboard rear corner of the seat cushion frame (2).
Install and tighten the screw (3) that secures the rear SAB tether anchor clip to the seat cushion frame. Tighten the screw to the proper torque. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
Install the rear seat cushion into the vehicle. Refer to SEAT, REAR, INSTALLATION .
Do not connect the negative battery cable at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Verification Test procedure should be performed following service of any SRS component. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
