Pad, Instrument Panel: Installation

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, Occupant Classification System (OCS), seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to follow these instructions may result in accidental airbag deployment.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury when removing a deployed airbag, rubber gloves, eye protection, and a long-sleeved shirt should be worn. There may be deposits on the airbag unit and other interior surfaces. In large doses, these deposits may cause irritation to the skin and eyes.

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury, use extreme care to prevent any foreign material from entering the passenger airbag, or becoming entrapped between the passenger airbag cushion and the instrument panel top pad. Failure to observe this warning could result in occupant injuries upon airbag deployment.

  1. Position the dash pad (1) into the vehicle.
  2. Connect sun sensor and center stack wiring retainers into the dash pad (1).
  3. Position the dash pad onto the dash carrier fully.

  4. From under the instrument panel install the fasteners (1) securing the duct work to the HVAC housing and tighten securely.

  5. Install the fasteners (1) in the cluster opening and the fasteners (2) at the center opening.

  6. Install the fasteners (1).
  7. Install the trim panel (2) and trim fasteners (3).

  9. Position the lower surround panel (1) back into place and seat the retaining clips fully.

  12. Position the harness (1), if equipped, back and secure fully.

  13. Position the storage bin (1) back into place onto the instrument panel top cover (2) and seat fully.

  14. Install the fasteners (2).
  15. Install the speaker, if equipped.
  16. Install center speaker cover (1) and seat fully.

  17. Reach through and above the glove box opening (4) of the instrument panel to reconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector to the PAB pigtail wire harness connector (1). Be certain that the connector is fully engaged and locked.
  18. Still reaching through the glove box opening, install and tighten the two screws (5) that secure the PAB (2) lower mounting bracket to the instrument panel structural support (3). Tighten the screws to 9 N.m (80 in. lbs.).
  19. If equipped, install the amplifier. Refer to AMPLIFIER, INSTALLATION .

  20. Install the radio support bracket (1) and install the bolts (2).

  21. Install the radio module. Refer to RADIO, INSTALLATION .
  22. Connect the electrical connectors and install the center bezel (2).
  23. Seat the clips (1) fully.
  24. Install the fasteners (3).

  25. Connect the HVAC control head electrical connectors and install the control head (2).
  26. Seat the four control head fastener clips (1) fully.

  27. Located under the passenger side of dash, connect the body to dash wiring harnesses (1).
  28. Connect the coaxial connectors (2), if so equipped.

  29. Install the silencer panel (1) and the push pin fasteners (2).
  30. Install the defroster grille. Refer to GRILLE, DEFROSTER, INSTALLATION .
  31. Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, INSTALLATION .
  32. Install the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, INSTALLATION .
  33. Install the instrument cluster. Refer to INSTALLATION .
  34. Install the glove box assembly. Refer to GLOVE BOX, INSTRUMENT PANEL, INSTALLATION .

  35. Located under the passenger side of dash, connect the body to dash wiring harnesses (1).
  36. Connect the coaxial connectors (2), if so equipped.

  37. Connect the a-pillar wiring connectors.
  38. Fasten the harness and connector (2) into the dash side (1) on both sides of the vehicle.

  39. Position the front door sill scuff panel (1).
  40. Hand tap to engage the retaining clips securing the front door sill scuff panel (1) to the door sill and lower B-pillar.

  41. Position the closeout trim panel (3) located between the A-pillar trim and the front scuff plate.
  42. Seat the retaining clips (1 and 2) fully.

  43. Install the end caps (1). Refer to CAP, INSTRUMENT PANEL END, INSTALLATION .

  44. Install the A-pillar trim. Refer to PANEL, A-PILLAR TRIM, INSTALLATION .
  45. Install the instrument panel speakers. Refer to SPEAKER, INSTALLATION .
  46. Do not reconnect the negative cable to the battery at this time. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Verification Test procedure should be performed following service of any SRS component. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
