Timing Belt Idler Pulley: Removal

CAUTION: Idler pulley retaining bolts are left hand thread.

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Remove engine cover. Refer to ENGINE COVER .
Remove cooling fan and fan drive viscous clutch assembly. Refer to RADIATOR - FAN - VISCOUS .
Remove accessory drive belt (Refer to COOLING/ACCESSORY DRIVE/DRIVE BELTS - REMOVAL) .
Remove cooling fan support (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/RADIATOR FAN - REMOVAL) .
Remove vibration damper (Refer to ENGINE/ENGINE BLOCK/VIBRATION DAMPER - REMOVAL) . .
Rotate the engine to 90 degrees ATDC (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING - STANDARD PROCEDURE) .
Remove timing belt outer cover (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN COVER(S) - REMOVAL) .
Remove timing belt (Refer to ENGINE/VALVE TIMING/TIMING BELT/CHAIN AND SPROCKETS - REMOVAL) .
NOTE: Idler pulley retaining bolts are left hand thread.
Remove timing belt idler pulleys. See Fig 1.
