Test 7A: Driver-Side Curtain Squib Short To Ground

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
Air Bag Control Module (ACM) harness connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for wire colors and terminal usage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if DRIVER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If DRIVER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is active DTC, go to next step. If DRIVER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access driver-side curtain air bag and disconnect harness connector. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to driver-side curtain air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, read ACM DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace driver-side curtain air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access ACM and disconnect harness connector C1. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to ACM harness connector C1. Disconnect SRS load tool from driver-side curtain air bag harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and Light Blue/Orange wire (line 1 circuit) on harness side of driver-side curtain air bag connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance between ground and Light Blue/Brown wire (line 2 circuit) on harness side of driver-side curtain air bag connector. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms in both circuits, replace ACM. If resistance is less than one 10 k/ohms in either circuit, repair short to ground in appropriate circuit.
