Test 36A: Passenger Seat Belt Switch Short To Ground

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
Air Bag Control Module (ACM) harness connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for wire colors and terminal usage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO GROUND is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect passenger-side front seat belt switch connector. See SEAT BELT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect DRBIII to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. On DRBIII display, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace passenger-side seat belt switch. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ACM connector C2. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between Gray wire (line 1 circuit) and Violet wire (line 2 circuit) on harness side of seat belt switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short between Gray and Violet wires. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance in Gray wire between ground and harness side of seat belt switch connector. Measure resistance in Violet wire between ground and harness side of seat belt switch connector. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms in either circuit, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ACM.
