Test 35A: Passenger Seat Belt Switch Short To Battery

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
Air Bag Control Module (ACM) harness connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for wire colors and terminal usage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO BATTERY is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO BATTERY is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH SHORT TO BATTERY is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect passenger-side front seat belt switch connector. See SEAT BELT SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect DRBIII to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. On DRBIII display, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH CIRCUIT OPEN, replace passenger-side seat belt switch. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER SEAT BELT SWITCH CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step.
Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ACM harness connector C2. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage in Gray wire (line 1 circuit) between ground and harness side of seat belt switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure voltage in Violet wire (line 2 circuit) between ground and harness side of seat belt switch connector. If voltage is not present in both circuits, replace ACM. If voltage is present in either circuit, repair short to battery in appropriate wire.
