Test 10A: Passenger-Side Curtain Squib Circuit Short To Battery

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
Air Bag Control Module (ACM) harness connectors C1 and C2 are identical, except for wire colors and terminal usage. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side curtain air bag and disconnect harness connector. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to passenger-side curtain air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, read ACM DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER-SIDE CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace passenger-side curtain air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access ACM and disconnect harness connector C1. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (ACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to ACM harness connector C1. Disconnect SRS load tool from passenger-side curtain air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage in Light Blue/Yellow wire (line 1 circuit) between load tool adapter and passenger-side curtain air bag harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure voltage in Light Blue/White wire (line 2 circuit) between load tool adapter and passenger-side curtain air bag harness connector. If voltage is not present in both circuits, replace appropriate ACM. If voltage is present in either circuit, repair short to battery in appropriate circuit.
