Chime Warning Diagnosis

WARNING: Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation involving steering column, seat and instrument panel components. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Do not apply electrical power to any component on steering column without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy.
  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 8 (Light Blue wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Light Blue wire between instrument cluster and key-in switch.
  2. Check continuity of Light Blue wire between terminal No. 5 at headlight switch harness connector and terminal No. 8 at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair open in Light Blue wire between instrument cluster and key-in switch.
  3. Disconnect seat belt pigtail harness connector, located on floor. Check continuity between ground and terminal No. 10 (Light Green/Red wire) at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity exists, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and seat belt switch.
  4. Check continuity of Light Green/Red wire between terminal at seat belt harness connector and terminal No. 10 at instrument cluster harness connector C2. If no continuity exists, perform PRELIMINARY DIAGNOSIS  . If continuity exists, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and seat belt switch.
