Test TC-171A - Governor Pressure Solenoid/Trans Relay Circuits (DTC 45/P0748)

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.
NOTE: For connector terminal identification, you should refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . You should also perform the VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A  after each repair.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connectors. Inspect connectors and terminals for damage. Repair connectors and terminals as necessary. If connectors and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  2. Disconnect transmission relay connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using an external voltmeter, measure voltage between terminal No. 8 on PCM White connector and engine ground. If voltage is more than one volt, go to step 6). If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminal No. 8 on PCM White connector and transmission control relay output circuit on transmission relay connector. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, perform TEST TC-171B . If resistance is 3 ohms or less, perform TEST TC-171C . If resistance is 3-10 ohms, go to next step.
  5. Using an external ohmmeter, measure resistance between terminal No. 8 on PCM White connector and engine ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, perform TEST TC-171D . If resistance is 5 ohms or more, replace PCM.
  6. Disconnect transmission solenoid connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  7. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, measure voltage between terminal No. 5 on transmission solenoid connector and engine ground. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in governor pressure solenoid control circuit. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
  8. Measure voltage between engine ground and governor pressure solenoid control circuit at transmission relay connector. If voltage is more than one volt, repair short to voltage in transmission control relay output circuit (Light Blue wire on AB and ZJ bodies; Light Green wire on AN body; Red wire on BR body). If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
  9. Reconnect transmission solenoid connector. Drain and remove transmission pan. Disconnect governor pressure solenoid connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, go to next step.
  10. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between terminal No. 8 on PCM White connector and engine ground. If voltage is more than one volt, replace internal transmission wiring harness. If voltage is one volt or less, go to next step.
  11. Measure voltage on between ground and transmission control relay output circuit on transmission relay connector. If voltage is more than one volt, replace internal transmission wiring harness. If voltage is one volt or less, replace governor pressure solenoid.
