Test TC-164A - Transmission Temperature Sensor No Rise After Start (DTC 37/P0711)

CAUTION: Always turn ignition switch to OFF position prior to disconnecting or connecting any module connector.

NOTE: For connector terminal identification, you should refer to CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . For appropriate wiring diagram, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . You should also perform the VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A after each repair.

NOTE: To test Transmission Temperature (TRANS TEMP) sensor, engine and transmission must be at ambient temperature.

Ensure engine and transmission are at ambient temperature. Using scan tool, read DTCs. If P/N SWITCH, TRANS TEMP SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO LOW or TRANS TEMP SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH DTC's are present, repair those DTCs before proceeding. If none of these DTCs are present, go to next step.
Using scan tool, read TRANS TEMP sensor voltage. If voltage is less than 1.4 volts, perform TEST TC-74A . If voltage is more than 4 volts, perform TEST TC-75A . If voltage is 1.4-4.0 volts, go to next step.
Using scan tool, read and record Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor temperature, Battery (BATT) temperature, and TRANS TEMP sensor temperature. If TRANS TEMP is within 9 degrees of ECT or BATT temperature, go to step 5). If TRANS TEMP is not within 9 degrees of ECT or BATT temperature, go to next step.
Start engine and let it idle in gear, with brake on. Monitor TRANS TEMP sensor. If TRANS TEMP increases steadily 15°F over a 10 minute period, TRANS TEMP sensor is functioning properly at this time. Perform VERIFICATION TEST VER-1A . If TRANS TEMP does not increase steadily 15°F over a 10 minute period, go to next step.
Disconnect transmission solenoid 8-pin connector. Inspect connector and terminals for damage. Repair connector and terminals as necessary. If connector and terminals are okay, replace TRANS TEMP/governor pressure sensor.
