Test TC-27A - Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit (DTC 37)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Sundance, 1994 Plymouth Acclaim, 1994 Dodge Spirit, 1994 Dodge Shadow, and 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY

.
- Using DRB, actuate Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid. Wait 10 seconds. Using DRB, read trouble codes. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code does not return, go to next step. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code returns, go to step 4).
- While actuator test is still running, wiggle wiring from TCC solenoid connector to PCM. Using DRB, read trouble codes. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code returns, repair wiring harness where wiggling caused trouble code to reset. Perform TEST VER-2. If TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code does not return, go to next step.
- At this time, condition required to set trouble code is not present. TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID trouble code sets if an open or short is detected in TCC solenoid/relay or TCC solenoid circuit. Possible causes are: TCC solenoid/relay open or shorted, open TCC solenoid Dark Blue wire, or open or short to ground in TCC solenoid/relay Orange/Black wire. Orange/Black wire changes to Light Green/White wire on (AJ body) after going through a connector. Perform TEST VER-2 . Test is complete.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Place DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage of TCC solenoid connector Dark Blue wire.
- If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Place DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Orange/Black wire (AA, AP) or Light Green/White wire (AJ body) between TCC solenoid connector and PCM connector terminal No. 54. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using DRB, check resistance on PCM connector terminal No. 54 Orange/Black wire (AA, AP) or Light Green/White wire (AJ body). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in appropriate wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Reconnect TCC solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 54 (Orange/Black wire) (AA, AP) or Light Green/White wire (AJ body). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace TCC solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
