Test TC-25A - EGR Solenoid Circuit (DTC 32)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Plymouth Sundance, 1994 Plymouth Acclaim, 1994 Dodge Spirit, 1994 Dodge Shadow, and 1994 Chrysler LeBaron. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For circuit and connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION DIRECTORY
. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
.
- Using DRB, erase trouble codes. Actuate EGR solenoid. Using DRB, read trouble codes. If DRB does not display EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to next step. If it displays EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT, go to step 5).
- At this time, condition required to set trouble code is not present. EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code is set when solenoid is not in its proper state when monitored by Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Possible causes are: open or shorted EGR solenoid Gray/Yellow wire, open EGR solenoid Dark Blue wire, or failed PCM. Go to next step.
- Inspect wiring and connectors. Repair as required. Perform TEST VER-2. If wiring and connectors are okay, using DRB, read trouble codes. Actuator test should still be running. Wiggle wiring harness from EGR solenoid to PCM.
- If EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code returns while wiring harness is wiggled, repair harness where wiggling caused problem to appear. Perform TEST VER-2. If EGR SOLENOID CIRCUIT trouble code does not return while wiring harness is wiggled, see INACTIVE TROUBLE CODE CONDITION . Test is complete. Perform TEST VER-2 .
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect EGR solenoid connector. Turn ignition on. Place DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage of EGR solenoid connector Dark Blue wire.
- If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Dark Blue wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is less than 10 volts, turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM connector. Go to next step.
- Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance of Gray/Yellow wire between PCM connector terminal No. 35 and EGR solenoid connector. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Gray/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Put DRB in ohmmeter mode. Using DRB, check resistance of PCM connector terminal No. 35 (Gray/Yellow wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Gray/Yellow wire. Perform TEST VER-2 . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Reconnect EGR solenoid electrical connector. Turn ignition on. Put DRB in voltmeter mode. Using DRB, check voltage on PCM connector terminal No. 35 (Gray/Yellow wire). If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace EGR solenoid. Perform TEST VER-2. If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace PCM. Perform TEST VER-2.
