Test 5A - Repairing Ignition Input Circuit
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For connector terminal identification, see Figure
.
NOTE:
Perform TEST 1A
before proceeding.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect VTA module. See Figure in TEST 1A and see VEHICLE THEFT ALARM MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Inspect VTA module connector, clean and repair as needed. Turn ignition to RUN position. Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage at VTA module connector terminal No. 20 (Light Green/Red wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace VTA module. Perform TEST VER-1A . If voltage is less than 10 volts, remove circuit breaker No. 27 from fuse block.
- Using DRB in voltmeter mode, check voltage at left side (Black/White wire) of circuit breaker No. 27 receptacle. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open Black/White wire circuit between ignition switch and circuit breaker. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
- Using DRB in ohmmeter mode, check resistance at VTA module connector terminal No. 20 (Light Green/Red wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Green/Red wire circuit and replace circuit breaker No. 27. Perform TEST VER-1A . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
- Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between VTA module connector terminal No. 20 (Light Green/Red wire) and right side (Light Green/Red wire) of circuit breaker No. 27. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace circuit breaker No. 27. Perform TEST VER-1A . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Light Green/Red wire circuit between circuit breaker No. 27 and VTA module connector terminal No. 20. Perform TEST VER-1A .
