Test TC-2B - No Crank Reference Signal At Pcm

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1995 Jeep Wrangler, 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and 1995 Jeep Cherokee. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform TEST TC-1A  before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION  at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS  at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-2A  after each repair.
  1. Disconnect Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor. Inspect CMP connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Repair as necessary. Using scan tool in voltmeter mode, check voltage in CMP sensor 8-volt supply circuit (Orange wire on XJ and YJ bodies or White/Black wire on ZJ body). If voltage is less than 7 volts, go to next step. If voltage is more than 7 volts, replace CMP sensor.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) connector. Inspect PCM connector for damaged or pushed-out terminals. Repair as necessary. Using scan tool in ohmmeter mode, check resistance of 8-volt supply circuit (Orange wire on XJ and YJ bodies or White/Black wire on ZJ body) between CKP sensor connector harness side and PCM connector terminal No. 7. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in 8-volt supply circuit.
  3. Using an external ohmmeter, check resistance on 8-volt supply circuit between PCM connector terminal No. 7 and CMP connector terminal No. 3 (Orange wire on XJ and YJ bodies or White/Black wire on ZJ body). If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in 8-volt supply circuit. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace PCM.
