Test NTC-5A - Checking TPS Calibration

NOTE:
Perform TEST NTC-1A
before proceeding with this test. For connector terminal identification, see CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION
at beginning of article. For wiring diagrams, see WIRING DIAGRAMS
at the end of this article. Perform TEST VER-2A
after each repair.
- Turn engine off. Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, read Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) voltage. Ensure throttle is fully closed and against throttle stop.
- If voltage is not one volt or less with throttle closed, replace TPS. If voltage is one volt or less with throttle closed, watch voltage while slowly opening throttle wide open. If voltage change is not smooth, replace TPS. If voltage change is smooth, go to next step.
- If maximum voltage is not at least 3.6 volts at wide open throttle, replace TPS. If maximum voltage is at least 3.6 volts at wide open throttle, using scan tool, read minimum TPS voltage. If minimum voltage is not zero to one volt, replace TPS. If minimum voltage is zero to one volt, TPS is functioning properly. Test is complete.
