Pinpoint Test D: Latch Test
- D1: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the relevant article of the repair information and remove the tailgate trim for access to the tailgate latch Refer to: TAILGATE TRIM PANEL
.
- Try to release the tailgate latch with the emergency release lever to open the tailgate.
Does the tailgate latch release?
Yes : GO to D2.
No : Install a new tailgate latch assembly as necessary
- Refer to the relevant article of the repair information and remove the tailgate trim for access to the tailgate latch Refer to: TAILGATE TRIM PANEL
.
- D2: LATCH TEST NOTE: Latch in actuated position (fully cinched)
- Check the position of the cinch actuator lever on the latch.
Is the cinch actuator lever actuated?
Yes : GO to D3.
No : GO to D5.
- D3: LATCH TEST
- Remove the soft close cable.
Does the position of the cinch actuator lever travel further to the rest position?
Yes : GO to D4.
No : Install a new tailgate latch assembly as necessary, due to internal mechanical failure.
- D4: LATCH TEST
- Retest the latch function - clasp latch fully and then press the exterior release button
Does the latch release with any exterior close operation?
Yes : GO to PINPOINT TEST E .
No : GO to D5.
- D5: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and measure the voltage at the latch during actuation (press exterior release switch) at the latch motor power and ground pins.
Is the actuation signal between 9 volts and 16 volts?
Yes : GO to D6.
No : GO to D7.
- D6: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams, disconnect the harness connection to the latch and check for continuity across the motor latch pins.
Is there continuity across the motor latch pins?
Yes : GO to D7.
No : Install a new tailgate latch assembly as necessary, due to internal motor failure.
- D7: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and measure the exterior release switch status during actuation.
Does the voltage change state?
Yes : GO to D8.
No : Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and check the BCM power and ground circuits for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
- D8: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and measure the interior close switch status during actuation.
Does the voltage change state?
Yes : GO to D9.
No : Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and check the BCM power and ground circuits for open circuit, high resistance. Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
- D9: LATCH TEST
- Refer to the appropriate electrical circuit diagrams and check the circuit between the latch release motor and the BCM for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance.
Were any faults found with the wiring harness?
Yes : Repair the wiring harness as necessary.
No : Contact Jaguar Land Rover Technical Assistance with all of the above findings and information.
