Control Components (G2200061): Overview
The climate control system operates the Air Conditioning (A/C), the heating and ventilation system to control the air in the passenger compartment. The climate control system controls the air from the climate control assembly for temperature, volume and distribution. The standard climate control system is a 2 zone system that maintains the individual temperature levels selected for the driver and front passenger. The 4 zone climate control system is available which additionally provides individual control for the left and right second row seat passenger areas.
The climate control system is controlled by the HVAC control module in response to inputs from the Integrated Control Panel (ICP), the Rear Integrated Control Panel (RICP) (if equipped) and the following sensors:
- Ambient Air Temperature (AAT) sensor
- A/C temperature pressure sensors
- Evaporator temperature sensor
- In-vehicle temperature sensor
- Humidity sensor
- Sunload sensor
- Pollution sensor
- Duct air temperature sensors.
Operation can be fully automatic, or manual selections can be made for the intake air source, blower speed and air distribution. These selections are made on the ICP and the RICP (if equipped).
The HVAC also controls the source of heat when heat is required for the passenger compartment. The HVAC also controls the heating for the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery before and during charging when connected to an external power supply.
Heat for the passenger compartment from the heater core in the climate control assembly and climate control coolant is provided from 2 sources:
- High Voltage (HV) interior heater.
- For additional information, refer to: HEATING AND VENTILATION .
- Climate control indirect condenser.
- Heat recovered from the electric drive temperature control system.
- For additional information, Refer to: ELECTRIC DRIVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL .
- Heat recovered from the outside air by the Air Conditioning (A/C) system and the recovery heat exchanger.
- For additional information, refer to: AIR CONDITIONING .
The HVAC control module selects the most efficient heat source to optimize the distance travelled by the vehicle from the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery.
The HVAC controls the A/C system to provide the following:
- A/C for the passenger compartment.
- Heat for the passenger compartment, from heat recovered from the electric drive temperature control system controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- For additional information, Refer to: ELECTRIC DRIVE TEMPERATURE CONTROL .
- Heat for the passenger compartment, from heat recovered from the outside air.
- Cooling for the EV battery, when requested by the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM).
- For additional information, Refer to: Electric Vehicle Battery Temperature Control ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY TEMPERATURE CONTROL .
For additional information, refer to: AIR CONDITIONING .
