Air Conditioning System
The operation of the Air Conditioning (A/C) system is controlled by the HVAC control module. The HVAC adjusts the electrical power to the electric A/C compressor to match the A/C system demands for temperature control requirements. By matching refrigerant flow to the temperature control requirements, the HVAC minimizes the Electric Vehicle (EV) battery usage while providing the A/C system requests from the following:
- The climate control heating and cooling for the passenger compartment.
- The EV battery temperature control system controlled by the Battery Energy Control Module (BECM).
- The electric drive temperature control system controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
The HVAC communicates with the BECM and the PCM through the High Speed (HS) Controller Area Network (CAN) power mode zero systems bus.
