Pinpoint Test D: AIRPATH Visual Checks
- D1: AIRPATH BLOCKAGE INSPECTION
- This pin point test will indicate a number of airpath visual checks to diagnose airpath blockage and oil ingress that affect the operation of the turbocharger components.
Is the air filter and/or air duct blocked by any foreign object/material? Refer to: AIR CLEANER ELEMENT .
Yes
Rectify the airpath blockage as required and clear DTC . Retest the vehicle and if fault persists continue to GO to D2.
No
GO to D2.
- D2: AIRPATH OIL INGRESS INSPECTION CAUTION: Do not insert anything into the turbocharger housing, attempt to apply force to the blades and/or shaft or remove/tighten the compressor nut.NOTE: If oil ingress is found in the intake system, (air-path pipes, manifold and turbocharger) clean and proceed with the guided diagnostics. Do not replace components due to oil ingress until proven defective.
- Remove the Refer to: HIGH PRESSURE EXHAUST GAS RECIRCULATION VALVE . And Check for excessive oil ingress in the compressor housing and blades.
Was excessive oil ingress detected in the airpath system?
Yes
Check the integrity of the positive crankcase ventilation system. Check for leaks and blockages. Refer to: ENGINE EMISSION CONTROL - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL (G1851019) If a positive crankcase ventilation leak or blockage is identified rectify as required and GO to D3.
No
GO to PINPOINT TEST E .
- D3: CHECK THE COMPRESSION
- Check the compression of the engine cylinders for excessive blow by due cylinder and/or piston ring wear. Refer to: CYLINDER COMPRESSION TEST - INGENIUM I4 2.0L DIESEL .
The minimum cylinder compression reading recorded must be within 10% of the maximum cylinder compression reading recorded. Is the difference across the cylinders higher than 10%?
Yes
Raise a Technical Assistance (TA) as excessive blow by may be root cause.
No
GO to PINPOINT TEST E .
