SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES ACTION
Heated steering wheel switch ON but Heated steering wheel NOT getting warm
  1. Incorrect vehicle power mode - Engine not running
  2. Battery/charging system fault
  3. Heated Steering wheel power save command
NOTE:
  • The heated steering wheel switch may illuminate amber even when the system is inhibited.
  • The heated steering wheel can be power managed (appears ON to customer, power cut off to heater element) by the vehicle depending on battery state of charge and health. It can also be power managed depending on other electrical loads requested by the customer. If the electrical loads requested, exceed the Amperage limit of the vehicle charging system simultaneously, the power management could occur.
  1. Start the engine (power mode 7) and retest.
  2. Refer to the relevant article of the repair information and test the battery and charging system Refer to: BATTERY and CHARGING SYSTEM (G1823108)
  3. GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
Heated steering wheel inoperative (Cannot turn Heated steering wheel ON)
  1. Local Interconnect Network (LIN) for open circuit, high resistance
  2. Heated steering wheel control module power or ground circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  3. Heated Steering wheel switch circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  4. Heated Steering wheel circuit short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance
  5. Heated Steering wheel control module internal failure
  1. GO to PINPOINT TEST G .
  2. GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
Heated Steering wheel intermittent (Heated Steering wheel sometimes warm and sometimes cold)
  1. Vehicle power management - battery state of charge/health/Battery/charging system fault
  2. Heated Steering wheel power save command
  3. Clockspring internal failure

NOTE: The heated steering wheel can be power managed (appears ON to customer, power cut off to heater element) by the vehicle depending on battery state of charge and health. It can also be power managed depending on other electrical loads requested by the customer. If the electrical loads requested, exceed the Amperage limit of the vehicle charging system simultaneously, the power management could occur.
  1. Consider power management as cause of issue to customer. Refer to the relevant article of the repair information and test the battery and charging system Refer to: BATTERY and CHARGING SYSTEM (G1823108)
  2. GO to PINPOINT TEST A .
  3. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment read the DTC(s) and Refer to: DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX - DTC: RESTRAINTS CONTROL MODULE (RCM)
