Oil Pan (G2244089): Removal
- This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
- This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.
- Always follow the fuel system health and safety precautions, when doing any repairs to the fuel system.

- Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING .
- Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .
- Drain the engine oil.
Refer to: ENGINE OIL VACUUM DRAINING AND FILLING .
- Drain the front differential oil.
Refer to: DIFFERENTIAL DRAINING AND FILLING .
- Remove the engine assembly.
Refer to: ENGINE - AWD .
- Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1304
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 10Nm
- Install the special tool.

NOTE: Note the installed position of the supercharger belt.
- Using a suitable tool release the tension from the supercharger belt.
- Remove the supercharger belt.

NOTE: Note the installed position of the accessory drive belt.
- Using a suitable tool release the tension from the accessory drive belt.
- Reposition the accessory drive belt away from the crankshaft pulley.

NOTE: Note the installed position of the accessory drive belt.
Remove the 4 bolts and the accessory drive belt tensioner.

NOTE: Note the installed position of the accessory drive belt.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the 2 bolts.
Install the special tools as illustrated.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1437, 303-1438
Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 25Nm
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1304
Using a suitable axle stand, support the special tools.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1437, 303-1438
General Equipment : Axle stands

NOTE: The crankshaft pulley bolt will be very tight.
Use the special tool to remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
- Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1304
- Install and tighten the 2 bolts.
Torque : 10Nm
- Install the special tool.
- Remove the 2 bolts from the special tool.
Remove the special tools.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1437, 303-1438
Remove and discard the bolt.
Remove the 2 bolts.
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1440
Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1441
- Install the special tool.
Special Tool(s) : 303-1439
- Install and tighten the 4 bolts.
Torque : 25Nm
- Install the special tool.
Using a suitable tool rotate the special tool counter clockwise.

NOTE: Make sure to clean the threads in the end of the crankshaft and that the crank nose is free of any foreign materials.
Remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the special tool from the crankshaft pulley.
Remove the special tool from the crankshaft pulley.

CAUTION: The bolts can only be used 3 times, mark the bolts with a center punch. If 2 punch marks are visible, discard the bolts.
- Install the special tool as illustrated.
Special Tool(s) : JLR-303-1304
Torque : 10Nm
- Remove the 10 drive plate bolts.
- Remove the drive plate.
- Install the special tool as illustrated.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the front halfshaft support bearing.
Reposition the protective cover away from the generator positive cable.
Remove the nut and reposition the positive cable away from the generator.
Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the generator.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the vacuum pump.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the idle pulley.
Release the wiring harness clip.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Release the 2 unions and remove the fuel rail crossover line.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Release the union.
- Remove the nut.
- Disconnect the 2 fuel pump electrical connectors.
- Release the wiring clip and reposition away from the oil pan.
Release the wiring harness clip.
Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
Reposition the wiring harness away from the oil pan.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the engine mount bracket.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the cover from the fuel pump.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
Release the 2 unions and reposition the fuel delivery lines away from the fuel pumps.
Remove bolt and reposition the fuel delivery lines away from the oil pan.

CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping fuel.
- Remove the 2 bolts from the High Pressure (HP) fuel pump lines.
- Release the 2 unions.
- Remove and discard the HP fuel pump lines.
Remove the covers from the HP fuel pumps.
-
CAUTION: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the 2 HP fuel pumps.
-
NOTE: Be prepared to collect escaping oil.
Remove the 2 fuel pump tappets from the oil pan assembly.
- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the front differential assembly.
Disconnect the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the CKP sensor.
- Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
- Release the 2 wiring harness clips.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the oil pan.
- Release the 4 wiring harness clips.
- Reposition the wiring harness away from the oil pan.

CAUTION: Discard the component.
- Remove the 12 bolts.
- Remove and discard the front cover.
Remove the 4 bolts from the rear of the cylinder block.
Remove the wiring harness bracket as illustrated and reposition away from the oil pan.

NOTE: Note the position of the bolts indicated prior to removal.
Remove the 16 bolts from the oil pan.
-
NOTE: Make sure to use the aluminum lug provided on the oil pan to lever against.
Using a suitable tool lever the oil pan assembly from the cylinder block.
-
NOTE: Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.
- Remove the 3 bolts.
- Remove the oil level sensor.
- Remove and discard the oil level sensor O-ring seal.
