Pinpoint Test E: Door Locking Tests - Single Door

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. E1: INLINE DIAGNOSTIC UNIT 2, MODULE SOFTWARE AND CONNECTORS TESTS
    1. If a latch-system fault is suspected, diagnosis of the affected components should be facilitated through the use of an IDU2  . Connect the IDU2  to the vehicle and follow the on-screen diagnostic process to locate the correct fuse. This can then be used to confirm the fault to the latch system without first having to strip down the door interior(s).
    2. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, confirm that the latest level Door Module software is installed. Update software as required and reconfigure the door module.
    3. Confirm that the interior and exterior handles are operating smoothly and returning to their home position.
    4. Confirm all doors are closed and there is not a message on the IP screen. If message is seen then refer to PINPOINT TEST C .

Is a latch-system fault still evident when unlocking with the smart key?

    Yes

    GO to  E2.

    No

    No further action required

  2. E2: DOOR LOCKING TEST 1
    1. Remove the interior door trim as necessary. REFER to:

FRONT DOOR TRIM PANEL (Removal and Installation),

and REAR DOOR TRIM PANEL (Removal and Installation).

    2. Check the door latch electrical connector for correct installation.

Is the door latch electrical connector installed correctly?

    Yes

    GO to  E3.

    No

Install the door latch electrical connector correctly and retest.

  3. E3: DOOR LOCKING TEST 2
    1. Disconnect the door latch electrical connector.

    2. Check the door latch electrical connector terminals for damage and corrosion.

Are the door latch electrical connector terminals bent, damaged or corroded?

    Yes

Repair the door latch electrical connector or install a new door latch as necessary. REFER to:

FRONT DOOR LATCH  (Removal and Installation),

and REAR DOOR LATCH  (Removal and Installation).

Check to confirm the repair is complete.

    No

    GO to  E4.

  4. E4: DOOR LOCKING TEST 3

CAUTION: When circuit testing, a suitable multimeter must be used (with sprung pins to prevent splaying of the terminals to minimize the risk of further failures).
NOTE: This step applies when testing the front left  or rear left  door.
    1. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 6 and terminal 7 of the door latch wiring harness connector.

NOTE: This step applies when testing the front right  or rear right  door.
    2. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 3 and terminal 2 of the door latch wiring harness connector.
    3. Using the smart key, lock and unlock the vehicle and check the measured voltage.

Is the measured voltage greater than 10V for each measurement?

    Yes

    GO to  E5.

    No

Refer to the electrical circuit diagrams and check the door latch single locking circuit for short circuit to ground, short circuit to power, open circuit, high resistance and repair harness as required. In addition, check that the circuit resistance is below 1Ω, make sure that all sections of the circuit are tested (the entire circuit from the door vehicle connector to the door module and from the door module to the door latch). If high resistance (above 1Ω) is detected, this may indicate the harness has become trapped or crushed and requires replacement.

  5. E5: DOOR LOCKING TEST 4 (NOT APPLICABLE TO NAS OR JAPAN)
    1. Using the smart key, unlock the vehicle.

CAUTION: When circuit testing, a suitable multimeter must be used (with sprung pins to prevent splaying of the terminals to minimize the risk of further failures).
NOTE: This step applies when testing the front left  or rear left  door.
    2. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 8 and terminal 7 of the door latch wiring harness connector.

NOTE: This step applies when testing the front right or rear right door.
    3. Connect a voltmeter to terminal 1 and terminal 2 of the door latch wiring harness connector.
    4. Using the smart key, double lock/unlock the vehicle and check the measured voltage.

Is the measured voltage greater than 10V for each measurement?

    Yes

Check that the circuit resistance is below 1Ω, make sure that all sections of the circuit are tested (the entire circuit from the door vehicle connector to the door module and from the door module to the door latch). If high resistance (above 1Ω) is detected, this may indicate the harness has become trapped or crushed and requires replacement see Refer to the appropriate wiring repair information. If resistance is below 1Ω, then replace the latch and re-assess the concern. REFER to:

FRONT DOOR LATCH  (Removal and Installation),

and REAR DOOR LATCH  (Removal and Installation).
