Exhaust System - Vehicles With: Diesel Exhaust Fluid: Removal

WARNING: Observe due care when working near a hot exhaust system.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting any components, make sure the area is clean and free from foreign material. When disconnected all openings must be sealed.

NOTE:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the essential information is always correct.
This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.
Refer to: LIFTING
Disconnect the startup battery ground cable.
Refer to: STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT

- Remove the 4 bolts.
- Remove the cross member.

- Remove the 23 bolts.
- Remove the right side undershield.

- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors.
- Release the wiring harness from the 4 clips.
- Release the 2 modules from the 7 clips.

Disconnect the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) injector electrical connector.

- Release the DEF injector clamp.
- Reposition and secure the DEF injector to one side.
- Remove and discard the DEF injector clamp.
CAUTION: Make sure the exhaust system is supported at all times.

- Remove the 2 nuts.
- Disconnect the exhaust system from the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).
- Remove and discard the gasket.
NOTE: Inspect the exhaust hangers and renew if damaged or worn.

Release the exhaust system rear silencer from the 2 exhaust mounting rubbers.
WARNING: This step requires the aid of another technician.
NOTE:
- Inspect the exhaust mounting rubbers and renew if damaged or worn.
- Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

- Release the exhaust system from the 2 mounting rubbers.
- Remove the exhaust system.

Use a suitable tool too remove the post Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) particulate matter sensor.

Use the special tool to remove the post SCR NOx sensor.

- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the front Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) damper.

- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the 2 rear NVH dampers.
