  1. Make sure the vehicle has arrived in a sealed state. Remove and discard the seals making sure to follow the local regulations.

Make sure that the vehicle has arrived with the transportation seals intact.

After parking the vehicle in a work bay, open the hood for access and enter vehicle details onto the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) form.

  2. Check the vehicle conforms to the specifications and options expected.

Record the following details on the PDI check sheet:

    • Customer name
    • Model
    • Registration number
    • Invoice number
    • Odometer
    • Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
    • Registration date
    • Engine number
    • Paint code
    • Trim code
    • Startup battery test code
    • Locking wheel nut code (if fitted).
    • Smart Keys number and Activity Key number (where fitted)
    NOTE:
    • The Smart Key number is the 8 to 10 digit code found on the label of the plastic bag containing the Smart Keys supplied with the vehicle.

    Startup battery location.

Complete the startup battery test process shown below.

    Startup Battery test.

The startup battery must be tested to determine that the startup battery is in good condition and there is sufficient charge to complete the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI). Certain electrical systems require a precise voltage to operate correctly.

Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved battery testing equipment, check the startup battery charge condition. Record the startup battery voltage and startup battery test code on the PDI sheet.

CAUTION: DO NOT connect the Jaguar Land Rover approved battery tester to any other circuit or chassis point other than the battery negative terminal.

To test the startup battery condition, use only a Jaguar Land Rover approved battery tester. The startup battery condition test is to be completed before doing the remainder of the PDI while the startup battery is not connected to the vehicle. Refer to the BATTERY CARE REQUIREMENTS for complete details and test result information.

If the startup battery is disconnected again after conducting the PDI, certain vehicle electrical systems that are calibrated during the PDI will lose the calibration. Once the startup battery is reconnected the vehicle electrical systems require resetting. This may include the PDI application and market configurations.

    Check the startup battery terminals

CAUTION: When manipulating these terminals, make sure that they are fully installed and tightened to the correct torque. This risks the startup battery discharging after handover to the customer.

Make sure that both the positive and negative startup battery terminals are correctly located and torqued to the required value: Refer to STARTUP BATTERY DISCONNECT AND CONNECT .

  4. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved battery support unit/power supply to the vehicle. Make sure the JLR approved battery support unit/power supply is connected to a designated earth point.
    CAUTION:
    • Only use the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved battery support unit/power supply if the startup battery and High Voltage battery are fully discharged.
    • Failure to maintain the startup battery in this manner will cause the Battery Monitor System (BMS) to NOT register the charge increase. This may cause certain systems to be inhibited while the BMS recalibrates.
NOTE: The voltage check must be done before connecting the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment. Failure to do this may result in vehicle configuration failure.

Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved battery support unit/power supply to the vehicle. Connect the positive (+) cable of the power supply to the positive (+) terminal on the startup battery. The negative (-) cable of the power supply MUST be connected to a suitable earth point on the vehicle.

    1. Connect the JLR approved battery support unit/power supply positive cable to the jump start positive terminal.
    2. Connect the JLR approved battery support unit/power supply ground cable to the jump start ground terminal.
  5. Connect the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) approved diagnostic equipment.

    Run the JLR PDI application:

NOTE: If the Customer has requested any additional keys, these must be with the vehicle positioned on the center console.
    • Make sure that all smart keys supplied with the vehicle are positioned on the center console.
    • Press the hazards switch to switch the ignition on.
    • The JLR approved diagnostic equipment will read the vehicle identification details from the vehicle.
    • NOTE: Make sure the ignition is switched on during the auto-scan.

Ignition cycles are automatically controlled by the JLR approved diagnostic equipment.

    • Check the vehicle specifications read by the JLR approved diagnostic equipment match the actual vehicle specifications.
    • Select the 'Service'  tab.
    • Select the 'Pre-Delivery Inspection'  tab. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions. This will set up telematics, disable the factory speed limiter and perform a full Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) clear.
    • NOTE: Make sure WiFi is turned OFF  before starting the telematics activation procedure.

    During telematics set-up:

    • The system will now search for signal coverage.
    • If it detects a good signal coverage, confirm to activate the telematics module.
    • A message will state if activation was successful, the emergency call (eCall) button will illuminate red.
    • If unsuccessful or the JLR approved diagnostic equipment states a poor signal coverage, the vehicle must be moved to a area of good signal coverage.
    • Press the information eCall button, after 10 seconds the illumination pattern will change. Release the button and the system will try to activate the telematics module.
NOTE: This will time out after 2 minutes.
    • If successful, the information eCall button will stay illuminated for a short period and the eCall call button will be illuminated red.
    • If unsuccessful, repeat the process until the eCall call button is illuminated red.
    • Continue until all recommended programs have been run.

Using the JLR approved diagnostic equipment, interrogate any DTC's that are present and rectify.

  6. Check the register of Service Action Bulletins, Recall Actions, or Update Prior to Sales notices and make sure all open campaigns are completed during the Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI).
  7. InControl Touch Pro Map Installation (where applicable).

  10. Check all under bonnet fluid levels.

Investigate the cause if any fluid level is low.

CAUTION:
  • Brake fluid level should be between 'MIN' and 'MAX' based upon brake pad wear.
  • Only top-up brake fluid to 'MAX' after new brake pads have been installed.
  • If the brake fluid level is below 'MIN', visually check for any leaks.
  1. Check the brake fluid level.
  2. Check and top-up the washer fluid level.
  3. Check and top-up the coolant level.
  4. Check and top-up the engine oil level.

  3. Oil filler cap.
  4. Washer fluid reservoir.

Oil checking procedure

NOTE: Prior to checking the oil level make sure that the vehicle is on level ground, the engine oil has reached operating temperature and the engine has been switched off for 10 minutes. The system will not give an accurate reading until the oil level has stabilised.
  1. Switch on the ignition and make sure the vehicle is in Park.
  2. Select the Service Menu via the instrument panel menu.
  3. Select Oil Level Display  . The current oil level status and topping-up advice is displayed in the instrument panel.
  4. Top-up as instructed.
