Software Over The Air Update - Vehicles With: Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) (G2385576)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2020 Jaguar XE and 2019 Jaguar XE. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
When replacing an Infotainment Master Controller (IMC) the IMC
must be configured using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment
before (if prompted) using Software Over The Air (SOTA) to update it.
NOTE:
- SOTA updates will not be possible if the time and date displayed on the vehicles Touchscreen are incorrectly set.
- If this process is being completed as part of Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI), continue with other tasks around the vehicle while the software is being downloaded and installed.
- Where possible, an external WiFi connection is preferred.
- It will not be possible to use an external WiFi connection that requires an authentication Username and Password entering, through a third party webpage for the SOTA update. For example: a guest WiFi connection.
- Make sure if the customers Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) is being used, that you have their permissions; updates could use up to 200MBs of mobile data.
- If using a SIM card, make sure that 'Mobile Data' is 'Enabled' and 'Usage Limit' is set to 'Off' in the vehicle connectivity menu, on the vehicle touchscreen.
- The ignition may time out after 10 minutes with the Jaguar Land Rover approved battery support unit connected. Consider this when downloading and installing software updates and make sure to switch the ignition back on before a maximum of 30 seconds to resume the process.
- If a JLR00004 - Hand-Held Device is available, an application has been included on the tool to hold the ignition on for the duration of the process. This can be launched by connecting the JLR00004 - Hand-Held Device to the vehicle and following the on-screen instructions
- If the process fails or an error message is displayed at any point in the process then a Technical Assistance (TA) must be raised. Select 'SOTA - Update Programming Concern' symptom tag and enter 'SOTA update error' under 'Customer Concern/Comments' in the TA .
- Connect a Jaguar Land Rover approved battery support unit .
- Determine the vehicle connectivity method to be used for the SOTA update. The update can be completed using either; an external WiFi connection, or a SIM card utilizing mobile data.
- When vehicle connectivity status is established, make sure the connectivity status is shown in the top left corner of the touchscreen (if using a SIM card a 3G/4G symbol will be displayed, if WiFi is being used a WiFi symbol will be displayed).
- If the vehicle connectivity cannot be established. For additional information, Refer to: SOFTWARE OVER THE AIR UPDATE (SOTA) - INTERNET CONNECTION
ITEM NUMBER ITEM 1 TOPIx Vehicle Summary 2 Vehicle Software Tab 3 SOTA Slider 4 Module 5 Installed Software 6 Latest Software 7 Installation Status - Access TOPIx using the new view (simple view does not support SOTA
) and complete the following;
- Enter the vehicles Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) in the 'VIN Selection box.
- Select the 'View all vehicle details' hyperlink in the top right corner of the home screen.
- Select the 'Vehicle Software' tab.
- Make sure a 'SOTA slider' is available on the page.
- If the 'SOTA slider' is gray, touch it to turn it green.
ITEM NUMBER ITEM 1 Software Update Off - Using the vehicle touchscreen, complete the following;
- Navigate to 'Settings' and then 'Software Updates'.
- Make sure Software Updates are enabled, if required; activate it by pressing the power symbol on the vehicle's touchscreen.
ITEM NUMBER ITEM 1 Software Update On 2 Infotainment Software - Select 'Check For Update'.
- At this point, no update will be available. This is normal.
ITEM NUMBER ITEM 1 TOPIx Vehicle Summary 2 Vehicle Software Tab 3 SOTA Slider 4 Module 5 Installed Software 6 Latest Software 7 Installation Status 8 Awaiting Update Refresh Tab - Access TOPIx and complete the following;
- Return to the 'Vehicle Summary' page. The page must now be refreshed by selecting the 'refresh this tab now' hyperlink.

NOTE: If the SOTA update is being run as part of a module replacement and the status is showing 'complete', select the 'replace' hyperlink instead this will allow the vehicle to be updated using SOTA as the Previous module had already been updated to the latest level using SOTA. Continue to the next Step.
If the 'Update' button is shown select it. If 'complete' is shown the infotainment system is up to date and go to Step 14 .
- Using the vehicle touchscreen, complete the following;
- Select 'Check For Update'.
- An update should now be available. Select 'Install Now'.
- When 'Install Now' is selected, the installation will begin and a progress bar will be displayed.
- When the touchscreen shows that the Installation is complete, exit and lock the vehicle.NOTE:
- The hazard warning lamp switch will be illuminated during the shut down process and will extinguish when the vehicle has completed shut down, this should take a maximum of 7 minutes.
- The vehicle does not need to be attended during the shut down process.
- Allow the vehicle to shut down.
- When the vehicle has been shut down, re-enter the vehicle and cycle the ignition on. Make sure the vehicle connectivity status is shown in the top left corner of the touchscreen (if using a SIM card a 3G/4G symbol will be displayed, and if WiFi is being used a WiFi symbol will be displayed).
- Wait for 5 minutes then navigate back to 'Settings' and then 'Software Updates' select 'Check For Update'. At this point, no update will be available. This is normal.
ITEM NUMBER ITEM 1 TOPIx Vehicle Summary 2 Vehicle Software Tab 3 SOTA Slider 4 Module 5 Installed Software 6 Latest Software 7 Installation Status 8 Complete - Return to the 'Vehicle Summary' page previously opened in TOPIx. The page must now be refreshed by selecting the 'refresh this tab now' The InControl Touch Pro software loaded through SOTA should now be listed as 'Complete' in the installation status column.
- If this process is being completed as part of PDI, disconnect the Jaguar Land Rover approved battery support unit , where instructed to within the PDI information. If this is not part of a PDI then disconnect the Jaguar Land Rover approved battery support unit .
