Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement .
  3. Remove the upper tie bar. Refer to Front End Upper Tie Bar Replacement .
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System (Static Fill)  or Draining and Filling Cooling System (Vac-N-Fill) .
  5. Remove the front air deflector. Refer to Front Air Deflector Replacement .

  7. Remove the engine oil cooler pipe retaining bolts (1, 2) from the fan shroud if equipped.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  10. Using J 38185  reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp. See Special Tools .
  11. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.

  13. Remove the transmission oil cooler pipe retaining bolts from the fan shroud.
  14. Remove the transmission lines from the radiator. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Replacement .

  16. Disconnect the wiring harness electrical connectors (1) from the cooling fan motors.
  17. Remove the clips (2) attaching the harness to the fan shroud.

  19. Remove the electric cooling fan mounting bolts.

    IMPORTANT: Care should be taken when removing the cooling fan assembly not to damage the lower attachment points of both the cooling fan assembly and radiator.
  21. Remove the electric cooling fan assembly from the vehicle in the following order:
    1. Position the cooling fan assembly towards the left side of the vehicle.
    2. Pull upward on the right side of the fan assembly.
    3. Position the fan assembly towards the right side of the vehicle.
    4. Pull upward on the fan assembly removing the fan assembly from the vehicle.
