Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the liftgate window. Refer to Liftgate Window Replacement .
  2. Remove the rear quarter trim located above the tail lamps. Refer to Rear Panel Molding Replacement .
  3. Remove the liftgate window garnish molding. Refer to Rear Window Garnish Molding Replacement .
  4. Remove the liftgate trim panel. Refer to Liftgate Trim Panel Replacement .

  5. Disconnect the rear windshield washer fluid supply line.
  6. Disconnect the Center High Mount Stop Lamp (CHMSL) electrical connector located behind the header panel.

  7. Disconnect the rear windshield defogger electrical connectors (2).
  8. Remove the license plate pocket. Refer to Rear License Plate Pocket Replacement .
  9. Remove the lock cylinder. Refer to Liftgate Lock Cylinder Replacement .
  10. Remove the window latch assembly. Refer to Liftgate Window Latch Replacement .
  11. Remove the window wiper assembly. Refer to Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer SS) or Wiper Arm Replacement - Rear (TrailBlazer, Envoy) .
  12. Remove the liftgate control module. Refer to Liftgate Control Module Replacement .
  13. Remove the liftgate wire harness. Refer to Liftgate Wiring Harness Replacement .
  14. Remove the liftgate struts. Refer to Liftgate Strut Replacement .
  15. Mark the location of the liftgate hinges using a grease pencil or other suitable marking device.

  16. Remove the liftgate hinge nuts with the aid of an assistant.
  17. Remove the liftgate from the vehicle with the aid of an assistant.
