Horns Inoperative: Trooper

  1. Check HORN/HAZARD fuse (15-amp) located in fuse/relay box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Remove horn relay from fuse/relay box. Use DVOM and measure voltage between ground and horn relay cavity terminal No. 2 (Green/Orange wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage is indicated, go to step 4). If battery voltage is not indicated, go to next step.
  3. Repair open Green/Orange wire between HORN/HAZARD fuse and horn relay cavity terminal No. 2. After repairs, go to step 2).
  4. Connect fused jumper between battery voltage and horn relay terminal No. 2. Connect jumper wire between ground and horn relay terminal No. 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Use DVOM and check for continuity between horn relay terminals No. 2 and 3. If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, replace horn relay.
  5. Disconnect horn switch connector (B-12) under steering column (Light Green wire from steering wheel, Black/Orange wire from harness). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Use DVOM to check for continuity between ground and horn switch connector terminal No. 12 (Light Green wire). Depress horn switches. If continuity is indicated when horn switch is depressed, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated when horn switch is depressed, replace horn switch.
  6. Use DVOM and check for continuity between horn relay cavity terminal No. 1 and horn switch connector terminal No. 12 (Black/Orange wire). If continuity is indicated, go to step 8). If continuity is not indicated, go to next step.
  7. Repair open Black/Orange wire between fuse/relay box and horn switch connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repairs, recheck system operation.
  8. Repair open in Green/Yellow wire between fuse/relay box and horns. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
