Amigo & Rodeo

  1. Check HORN fuse (10-amp) located in fuse/relay box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS  table. If fuse is blown, replace fuse and recheck system operation. If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Ensure that horns are grounded securely. Repair if necessary. If horns are grounded securely, go to next step.
  3. Disconnect alarm and relay control unit connectors. Use DVOM and measure voltage in Green/Yellow wire between ground and alarm and relay control unit 12-pin connector (I-41) terminal No. 3 (terminal No. 2 on manual transmissions). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, repair open or poor connection in Green/Yellow wire between fuse/relay box and alarm and relay control unit.
  4. Check that horn relay is okay in alarm and relay control unit. If horn relay is okay, go to next step. If horn relay is not okay, replace horn relay.
  5. Disconnect horn switch connector. Use DVOM and measure voltage between ground and SRS coil side of horn switch connector (Green wire). If battery voltage is indicated, go to next step. If battery voltage is not indicated, repair open or poor connection in Orange/Black wire between alarm and relay control unit and SRS coil assembly. If circuit is okay, replace SRS coil assembly (SRS coil is part of combination switch and must be replaced as one unit). See COMBINATION SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  6. Use DVOM and check continuity of Green/Orange wire between alarm and relay control unit 12-pin connector (I-41) terminal No. 2 (terminal No. 1 on manual transmissions), low note horn connector and high note horn connector (if equipped). If continuity is indicated, go to next step. If continuity is not indicated, repair open Green/Orange wire between alarm and relay control unit and horn(s). See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  7. Connect fused jumper between horn positive terminal and battery voltage. Connect fused jumper between horn bracket and ground. If horn sounds, check horn bracket ground to body. If horn does not sound, replace horn.
