Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lexus ES 330. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step  2 when not using the hand-held tester.

  1. INSPECT TRAC OFF INDICATOR LIGHT 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the item "TRAC OFF LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the TRAC OFF indicator light on the hand-held tester.

    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the TRAC OFF indicator light can be shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.

    Standard: 

    1. Turn the VSC OFF indicator light is turned ON or OFF in accordance with the hand-held tester. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.

    2. Ground terminal WT of skid control ECU.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    4. Check that the VSC OFF indicator light comes on.

    Standard: 

    1. The light is turned ON or OFF in accordance with the connecting condition of terminals GND and WT. 

    NG: Go to step   3 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  2. INSPECT TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH 
    1. Remove the TRAC control switch.

    2. Disconnect the TRAC control switch connector T7.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 4 .

      Standard

    NG: REPLACE TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - TRAC OFF SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the TRAC control switch connector T7.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 6 .

      Standard

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS ON CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and combination meter connector C8.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 8 .

      Standard

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 9 .

      Standard

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step. 

  5. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY (SEE  COMBINATION METER  ) 
    NOTE: When replacing the Brake Actuator assy, perform zero point calibration (see PRE-CHECK  ).

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY 

    OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE  REPLACEMENT  )
