Inspection Procedure

- PERFORM PRE-CHECK
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- The ABS warning light is off.
- The amount of the brake fluid is between the min. line and max. line of the brake master cylinder reservoir.
- The parking brake pedal is fully released.
NOTE: When releasing the parking brake, move the shift lever into the P position to hold the vehicle for safety.NEXT: Go to next step.
- Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
- CHECK DTC FOR ABS
- Check if the DTCs are recorded, (see PRE-CHECK
)
NO: Go to step 3
YES: REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE
- Check if the DTCs are recorded, (see PRE-CHECK
)
- INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
- Start the engine.
- Select the item "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light on the hand-held tester display.
- Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light are shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.
Standard:
- Turn the BRAKE warning light is turned ON or OFF in accordance with the hand-held tester.
WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER:
- Turn the ignition switch off and disconnect the connector S1 from the skid control ECU.
- Ground terminal BRL of the skid control ECU.
- Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
- Check that the brake warning light goes off.
OK: Go to step 8
NG: Go to next step.
- INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
- Remove the parking brake switch.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 4
.

NG: REPAIR PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH)
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and the parking brake switch connector P5.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 6
.
Standard
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 7
.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step.
- INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
- Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
- Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 9
.
Standard
NG: REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER)
- Disconnect the combination meter connector C7 and the brake fluid level warning switch connector B1.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 11
.
Standard
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 12
.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
- Disconnect the skid control ECU connector S1 and combination meter connector C8.
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 14
.
Standard
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in Fig 15
.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: Go to next step.
- CHECK COMBINATION METER ASSY (SEE COMBINATION METER
)
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY
OK: REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (SEE REPLACEMENT )
NOTE: When replacing the Brake Actuator assy, perform zero point calibration (see PRE-CHECK ).
