The Continuous Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) system uses engine oil pressure to change the camshaft timing according to engine operating conditions. Engine oil viscosity changes according to engine temperature. The Oil Temperature Sensor (OTS) signal along with coolant and intake air temperature is used by the PCM to compensate for changes in oil viscosity when commanding the Variable Force Solenoid (VFS). The OTS measures the engine oil temperature before the engine oil flows through the VFS.
