Wheel Bearing: Installation

  1. Install outer bearing races in brake drum. Ensure races are fully seated. Pack wheel bearings and center of brake drum with grease. Install inner bearing and grease seal. Apply grease to seal lip.
  2. Install brake drum, outer bearing, washer and nut. On Elantra, Wheel Bearing Self-Locking Nut may only be reused if torque required to rotate nut while backing it off is greater than 48 Ft. Lbs. (5.5 N.m). If torque is less than specified, replace nut. On Sonata, reverse removal procedure. On all models, crimp wheel bearing nut into axle groove after tightening to specification.
